The Beginning of SheraCoons And The Inspiration Behind It
SheraCoons officially began in 2017.
Even the name has a special meaning to me. SheraCoons was inspired by one of my favorite television shows, She-Ra: Princess of Power, and particularly by Melendy Britt, the voice behind She-Ra.
I wanted the name of my cattery to represent something I loved, while also creating something unique that would become synonymous with the Maine Coons I raised. Combining She-Ra with Coons gave me SheraCoons—and a name that has become a very meaningful part of my life.
What started with a love for the breed has grown into something much bigger than I ever imagined.
Breeding With a Purpose
For me, breeding is about much more than producing beautiful kittens.
There is a responsibility that comes with bringing new lives into the world, and I take that responsibility seriously. My goal is to breed with purpose—to work toward healthy, well-adjusted Maine Coons while preserving the characteristics that made me fall in love
with this breed in the first place.
Health, temperament, structure, and personality all matter.
I believe responsible breeding means continually educating yourself, evaluating your cats honestly, and being willing to learn and improve. Health testing is an important part of that commitment, and I believe breeders should strive to make thoughtful decisions based on the best information available.
But health is only one piece of the puzzle.
A Maine Coon can have a beautiful coat and impressive size, but what makes them truly special is the cat underneath it all—their temperament, their confidence, their intelligence, and their ability to form that incredible bond with their people.
That is the Maine Coon I strive to preserve.
Raised in Our Home
One of the most important parts of SheraCoons is that our kittens are raised in our home.
I don’t believe socialization should be an afterthought. From the beginning, kittens are exposed to the sights, sounds, routines, and experiences of a household. They grow up surrounded by people and become familiar with the everyday things they will encounter when they eventually leave us.
Our kittens aren’t simply raised to be cats.
They are raised to become family members.
Every kitten has its own personality, and watching those personalities develop is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do. Some are outgoing and adventurous. Some are quiet observers. Some want to be involved in absolutely everything. And some seem to believe that your lap was specifically created for them.
Getting to know each kitten as an individual allows me to better understand who they are and what type of family may be the best fit for them.
The Families Behind the Kittens
One of the greatest privileges of breeding isn’t simply raising the kittens. It’s getting to know the families who eventually take them home.
When a SheraCoons kitten leaves our home, I want it to be the beginning of a lifelong relationship—not the end of one.
Choosing a kitten is a big decision, and choosing the right family for a kitten is just as important. My hope is always that our kittens will become cherished members of their families and that the relationship we began here will continue for many years.
The photographs, updates, stories, and messages from SheraCoons families are some of the most rewarding parts of this journey.
Seeing a kitten that I raised curled up in someone’s arms, growing alongside children, greeting their family at the door, or simply taking over someone’s couch reminds me why I started doing this in the first place.
The kittens may leave our home, but they never stop being a part of the SheraCoons family.
What SheraCoons Means Today
Today, SheraCoons represents much more to me than a cattery name.
It represents years of learning, experience, dedication, and an ongoing commitment to the Maine Coon breed.
It means putting thought and purpose into each breeding. It means caring about health and temperament just as much as appearance. It means raising kittens in a home environment where they can grow, develop, and become confident companions.
Most importantly, it means loving these cats enough to always want to do better.
SheraCoons has grown since 2017, but the foundation remains the same: a genuine love for Maine Coons and a desire to share the incredible companionship of this breed with families who will treasure them.
Looking Ahead
I don’t think anyone who breeds animals ever truly stops learning.
There is always more to understand, more to improve, and more ways to become a better breeder and caretaker. As SheraCoons continues into the future, my goal is to keep doing exactly that.
I want to continue learning, continue improving my breeding program, continue prioritizing health and temperament, and continue raising kittens who are prepared to become loving members of their families.
I also want to preserve the qualities that made me fall in love with Maine Coons all those years ago—their incredible personalities, their intelligence, their affectionate nature, and that unmistakable dog-like bond they form with their humans.
My hope is that years from now, when someone brings home a SheraCoons kitten, they will experience the same feeling I had when I first discovered the Maine Coon breed in college.
That moment when you realize there is something incredibly special about these cats.
And perhaps that is the true inspiration behind SheraCoons.
It started with one Maine Coon who captured my heart.
It became a cattery in 2017.
And today, it continues to be a journey built around love for the breed, purposeful breeding, healthy and well-socialized kittens, and the families who give those kittens their forever homes.
That is SheraCoons!
